Our Story
Vaidehi and Meghana started this organization with the intent to end grievances in the process of organ donation and transplant.
The story starts when a speaker comes into a Morris Hills Driver’s Ed. class to discuss an often misconstrued subject: organ donation. The speaker talked about how her simple stomach pain led her to go through liver and kidney transplants, something that could never have been expected. Luckily, she was able to find suitable organs in time: however, not everyone is as fortunate. After hearing this traumatic story, Vaidehi expressed her interest in this topic, something Meghana shared.
From there, Meghana and Vaidehi researched deeply into the process of organ donation and how widespread misconceptions take away a second chance for people worldwide. Nearly 11 million people die every year as a result of being unable to find a suitable organ, countless lives are lost – some belonging to children – with unfulfilled dreams. The fact that these patients are robbed daily of a second chance, struck a chord with Meghana and Vaidehi. From that moment on they decided that something needed to be done. They decided the best way to make an impact in these people’s lives was by opening a non-profit organization to provide the essential care that these patients deserve.
With more volunteers joining the cause daily, A Second Chance is expanding its horizons to different states and countries. Using seminars and fundraisers, we hope to educate and inspire more people to help out a patient in need. Today, we are working to make an impact worldwide, trying to give every transplant patient a second chance.
